Class 103(vi) A truss side frame has brake beam support brackets 35, Fig. 6, integrally cast so as to strengthen the frame by providing secondary trusses, and comprises a compression member 1, Figs. 1, 2, a tension member 2, and a column 3 defining a bolster opening 4 and a window 5. The bottom wall 7 of the member 1 merges with a transverse web 10 of each column 3, the column having inboard and outboard webs 11, 12, beaded as at 13. The web 10, Figs. 2a, 2b and 3 (not shown), is provided with lugs 14, 15 to accommodate a wear plate (not shown), and lugs 18, 19 and recesses 20, 21 are provided on the column 3 to cooperate with the plate. The member 2 has walls 22-25, the walls 24, 25 merging at the ends of the frame with the column webs 11, 12. Beneath the bolster opening 4 the wall 22 has widened portions 27, 28, to afford positioning means for springs, and have inboard and outboard flanges 29, 30, the flanges merging with the webs 11, 12, toward the longitudinal centre line of the frame as shown. The bracket 35 comprises top and bottom ledges 36 and 38 on the inboard side of the frame. The lower end of the ledge 36 is connected to the web 11 and merges with the bead 33, whilst the forward end of the ledge is connected to a front wall 37, Fig. 7, adapted to afford stop limiting means for the brake beam. The ledge 38 merges with the edge of the spring seat extension 27. Wheel recesses 40, 41 are provided, and recesses 42 are also provided to accommodate a wear plate (not shown), holes 43, 44 being used to position the plate. The oblique flange 29 affords the stop means for the brake beam as the latter slides downwardly in the bracket 35, the curve of the flange preventing accumulation of dust and dirt in the bracket. Figs. 9-11 (not shown), illustrate a modified bracket wherein the top ledge 36 is spaced above and terminated short of the spring seat flange 29 and is connected directly to the web 11 but is reinforced by a gusset 45.
