Abstract

677,170. Card indexes. EVERTAUT, Ltd. Dec. 11, 1950 [Feb. 24, 1950], No. 4771/50. Class 146 (i). A compressor 1 for a card index 2 comprises two separate laterally extending parts or plates 4 connected by an intermediate resilient or spring-influenced hinge 5 so that the plates 4 can be sprung to press outwardly against the receptacle sides 3 and can be released by movement relatively to each other about the hinge 5 to release the compressor. As shown the hinge 5 comprises a single resilient metal strip bent into a hairpin shape, the limbs 5a of which are secured by brackets 6 to the inner edges of the plates 4. Each plate 4 is formed with a flange 9 to bear on the bottom of the receptacle 2 and a side flange 7 to bear against the sides 3, the lower corner of the plate being cut away to avoid fouling of the sides on removal. Resilient pads 8 are provided on the flange 7 and may be provided under the flange 9. The upper ends of the hinge arms 5a are bowed at 5c to form finger-pieces for moving the plates 4 together.
