Abstract

An increased fineness of particle size of metallic paste pigments is obtained by taking a charge consisting of 70-85 per cent metal flake, at least 0.5 per cent lubricant and 15.0 to 29.5 per cent of a volatile hydrocarbon such as mineral spirits and bladeagitating this charge for a period of from 1 to 12 hours at a temperature not exceeding 110 DEG F. Specified lubricants are stearic acid, palmitic acid, oleic acid and ricinoleic acid while aluminium is the specified metal. Specifications 391,839 and 676,642 are referred to.
