A soldering iron bit wholly or partially of brass comprising 58-65 per cent Cu, 35-42 per cent Zn and Si up to 5 per cent with or without Sn up to 5 per cent preferably employs brass of the following composition: 60 per cent Cu, 39 per cent Zn, 0.5 per cent Si, 0.5 per cent Sn.
