676,218. Feeding sheets. FEENY, C. J. (Miehle Printing Press & Manufacturing Co.). March 1, 1950 [March 4, 1949], No. 5947/49. Class 100 (i). Sheet carries.-Sheets A, B, and C are fed in overlapping relation to a movable registering guide 10 where they are registered individually before being transferred to an impression cylinder 15 by grippers 11 and 12 on an oscillating arm 17. During the withdrawal of the sheet A from the table 19, the second sheet B is registered by the guide 10, so that as soon as the sheet A has passed slightly beyond the guide 10 the grippers 11 and 12 move in a direction substantially perpendicular to the sheet supporting surface of the table 19 such that gripped pads 11 engage the sheet B without disturbing the registration. The gripper fingers 12 are then rocked counterclockwise by cams to grip the sheet B while the guides 10 are rocked downwardly, but are returned to their operative position to register the next sheet C while the sheet B is being withdrawn. After the transfer of the sheet B the grippers are receded from the path of the sheet B while being returned towards the table 19. Specification 378,248 is referred to.
