Abstract
676,053. Vertical steam boilers; heating by waste gases. SCHMIDT'SCHE HEISSDAMPF-GES. July 11, 1950 [July 13, 1949], No. 17311/50. Class 123(ii) A steam boiler 1 with vertical fire tubes has an upper steam-and-water reservoir 2 which is detachably connected to a branch 3 on the boiler crown through an elbow 16 and to a lower annular chamber 22 surrounding the furnace 21 through downcomers 18, the dimensions of the branch 3 being such that the fire tubes are accessible from the water side for inspection and cleaning after removal of said elbow 16. A superheater 8 and a preheater or evaporator 14 are preferably located between the boiler and its jacket 9 so as to be heated by the gases flowing to a lower outlet 12. The boiler may be inserted in a waste-heat pipe line. In a modification the steam-andwater reservoir is circular in plan and is mounted concentrically above the boiler, the boiler being of smaller diameter than the reservoir and being enclosed within a jacket depending from the latter.
