Abstract

675,930. Watches. SMITH & SONS (ENGLAND), Ltd., S. Nov. 9, 1950, No. 27457/50. Class 139 In a watch, automatic winding mechanism comprises an oscillating mass A, α, Figs. 1 and 2, a first wheel C the axis of rotation of which is coincident with that about which the mass oscillates, a second wheel F rotatable about the same axis to effect winding of the mainspring, two sets of two planet pinions D, E and d, e carried by the oscillatable mass, the first and second pinions of each set being adapted to engage, directly or indirectly, with the first and second wheels. The arrangement is such that for one direction of motion of the mass, A, a one set of pinions D. E is effective to transfer drive from the oscillating mass to the second wheel F while for the other direction of motion the other set of pinions d, e is effective, the numbers of teeth on the wheels and pinions being such that, for either direction of motion of the oscillating weight the resulting direction of rotation of the second wheel is the same. The wheel F meshes with a wheel R connected to the mainspring. The planet pinions D, E and d, e are rigidly connected together in pairs and are carried by a member B rockably mounted on the mass A, a. The pinions D and d are prevented from reverse rotation by pawls carried by the member B.
