Abstract

675,610. Securing folding hoods. WILMOT-BREEDEN, Ltd., and BURGESS, W. H. Jan. 29, 1951 [Jan. 30, 1950], No. 2331/50. Class 108(i) [Also in Group XXV] The main pillar f of a collapsable hood pivoted at g, Fig. 1, is connected at each side of the vehicle through plates d and piston-rods c to hydraulic cylinders b, each of which cylinders is pivotally mounted in a slot h and is connected by a link or cable j to a spring-loaded slidable catch k adapted to secure the hood in its extended position as shown. When pressure liquid is supplied to the cylinder the latter moves downwardly in the slot relative to the rod c, thus unlocking the catch k and permitting the continued action of the pressure to collapse the hood. In the modification shown in Fig. 3, the pivoted cylinder does not move relatively to its piston-rod, but when pressure liquid is supplied to the cylinder a lever p, also pivoted at g, is first moved between the stops o to unlock the catch k, continued movement then collapsing the hood. An electric motor may be used instead of hydraulic means.
