Class 7(ii) The sump of an I.C. engine mounted over the front axle of a motor vehicle is formed with rear and front clearances A, B, for the front wheel axle and steering linkage respectively. The sump is welded up from pressed sheet metal members 1, 4, 5, a U- shaped partition 8 being provided to retain oil in the central part of the sump when running downhill. The member 5 is formed with longitudinal ribs 7 for oil cooling.
