675,215. Optical - - projection apparatus. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and PRICE, W. A. Aug. 22, 1950 [Aug. 22, 1949], No. 21762/49. Class 97 (i). [Also in Group XL (a)] A film projector comprises a removable mounting for an electric discharge lamp, the mounting including electric couplings, a transparent enclosure adapted to surround the lamp, at least partially, and means for supplying cooling air to the outside of the enclosure and also, to a limited extent, to the inside thereof to cool the lamp. A metallic channelshaped member 21 may be secured by nuts within the projector casing through flanges 24 so that it is located above an electric fan; it is recessed at 22 where the high-pressure mercury - vapour bulb is located between the reflector and condenser lens and is provided with a conical lamp support 31 and a conical spring- mounted support 33 which is slidable in a member 34 carried by a plate 36. Rotation of gauze - covered apertures 52 in a plate 53 relatively to apertures in plate 36 by a lever adjusts the flow of air within the surrounding glass tube 39 registered within the flange 38. The lamp carries a disc 50 to deflect air away from the lower part of the bulb and may carry a conical member to deflect hot air from the upper part. Connections from the caps are taken through a bushing 44 to knife contacts 41, 45.
