Abstract
675,207. Embossing fabrics. REDFARN, C. A. July 5, 1950 [June 17, 1949], No. 16226/49. Class 100 (ii). In a process for the production of deep embossed effects on fabrics, the fabric is impregnated with a solution or emulsion of a synthetic resinous polymerisation product, condensation product or precondensate, or with the components for producing the same, and is passed, after having been dried, between two rolls each of which is embossed with the desired pattern, substantially the same formations on each, but in reverse contour, so that they co-operate with a close mating intermesh, the embossed cloth being heated sufficiently to cure the resin incorporated therein. As described, one roll of metal formed with the pattern is run into a roll covered with a thick coating of cotton to give the reverse pattern, the metal roll being heated to a temperature of 100‹-160‹ C. and the rolls driven through helical gear or herringbone gear to prevent " judder." The cloth, such as Venetian satin or rep, is preferably impregnated with an alcohol-modified melamine-formaldehyde condensation product as an aqueous syrup in concentration of from 10-20 per cent by weight of the liquor and after embossing is passed through a drying oven at 140‹-150‹ C. to cure the resin.
