Abstract

674,732. Valve gear. BIRMINGHAM SMALL ARMS CO., Ltd., and HOPWOOD, H. June 16, 1950 [May 11, 1949], No. 12503/49. Class 7(vi) Tappets 3, 5, for overhead valve push-rod engines, e.g. vertical twin-cylinder motorcycle engines, are grouped in pairs and have, for a substantial part of their length, a tranverse cross-section of a segment greater than a semi-circle, and adjoining flat faces 17. Each tappet may be hollow and have a solid curved base presenting an extensive surface, resulting from the crosssection of the tappet, to a co-operating cam, The tappets may be restrained from relative rotation by a bar 23 having parallel flat faces slidably abutting the faces of recesses 21 of the intermediate tappets 5. All the tappets may be identical. Specification 567,029 is referred to.
