Abstract

674,605. Spring frames for motor-cycles. MOTO GUZZI SOC. PER AZIONI. Oct. 12, 1950 [July 28, 1950], No. 24905/50. Class 136 (iii) A rear suspension for a motor scooter or the like, comprises a single swivel arm 1 of circular cross-section welded to a tube section 2 incorporating a pivotal mounting by means of which the suspension is carried by supports 3 of the motor scooter frame. A plate 4 is welded to the part 2 and has a projection 5 which presses on the rear end of a spring shock absorber 6. The rear of plate 4 has a wing 7 which at the limit of travel strikes against a resilient buffer 8 restricting the recoil movement of the suspension. A circular housing 11 welded to the rear end of arm 1 contains a rotatable bush 12 having an eccentric bore 13 within which is mounted the rear wheel spindle. On rotation of the bush 12 the position of the bore, and thus the tension in the chain, may be adjusted. A rearwardly extending arm 15 secured to the tube section 2 is formed with an extended area lined on both sides with friction strips 16. The strips are disposed between plates 17, 17a which are secured to the angle frames. The pressure between the strips 16 and plates 17, 17a is adjustable by means of a spring 18 and a screw having a milled head 19 An arcuate slot 15a is formed in the arm 15 to permit free movement of the screw when the arm 15 oscillates.
