Abstract

Also in Group VI] In a cigarette-making machine wherein mouth-pieces 1 Figs. 3 and 4, are attached to cigarettes 2 by a coating of a film-forming substance applied around the joint, the mouthpieces and cigarettes are fed from a hopper 12, into grooves in sections 11b, 11a of a rotating drum and, are butted together by guides so that the joint 2a is positioned over the gap between the sections 11a, 11b. The film-formforming substance is sprayed by radially arranged sprayers 13a, 13b and is then dried by warm air. A profiling tool 16<SP>1</SP> smooths the joint and the mouthpiece cigarettes are then ejected on to a conveyer 14; excess of the filmforming substance being removed from the grooves by brushes 16 dipping into a solvent in a bath 15. In a modification Fig. 2, the cigarette and mouthpiece assemblages are carried by an endless belt conveyer 3, and are transferred to a second belt 7 which moves the assemblages in contact with a slower moving belt 8b, which produces rotation of the assemblages whilst the joints are passing the sprayer 9 located beneath the conveyer.
