Abstract
674,276. Centrifugal separator. BROADBENT & SONS, Ltd., T., and HALLITT, W. Jan. 26, 1951 [Jan. 26, 1950], No. 2020/50. Class 23 A discharger plough g is supported by an arm f<1> on a sleeve f which is slideable and rotatable on a pillar e, the whole being counterbalanced by a weight h. A rotary basket b is surrounded by a casing a. The pillar e is supported in two brackets c on a framework d. The plough has an inner face g' which is curved from end to end so that material (such as sugar), removed from the interior of the basket travels along the face g<1> to drop into a central discharge opening in the basket. The forward " curl-over " is reduced towards the inner end of the blade. During centrifuging, the parts f<1>, g are supported clear of the basket as shown in broken lines in Fig. 2. For ploughing (the arm f<1> is moved inwards over the basket top flange, lowered a little and then moved radially outwards under the flange until the plough contacts the material to be removed. With the basket rotating slowly the plough moves radially outwards until it reaches the basket wall and thereafter moves downwards towards the basket bottom in a " peeling " movement.
