[Also in Group XIII] A method of forming a finned composite tube 10 for heat exchange units consists in telescopically engaging two lengths of tubing 11, 12, forming a fin 13 on the outer length of tubing 11 by applying pressure inwardly to extrude material outwardly and to form a groove 14 in the inner surface of the tubing 11, and at the same time displacing material from the outer surface of the wall of the tubing 12 into said groove 14. The helically extending fin 13 is preferably formed by the roll apparatus disclosed in Specification 673,818. The lengths of tubing 11, 12 are formed of dissimilar metals, preferably both non-ferrous, being for example a white metal such as aluminium and copper respectively.
