673,508. Incorporating photographs &c. in moulded articles. DACCO, L. May 25, 1950 [June 3, 1949], No. 13138/50. Drawings to Specification. Class 87(ii). In the injection moulding of articles such as ornaments from transparent thermoplastic material wherein photographs, printed cards or like decorative material are placed in the mould before the material is injected and become incorporated in the moulded article, the photograph or other decorative material is spaced from the walls of the mould by spacing means so as to lie beneath the surface of the moulded article. The spacing means may be elements of the same plastic material which merge into the injected mass, or elements of a material which is volatilized or otherwise destroyed by the heat of the injected mass. Alternatively the spacing means may be a part of the article itself which is first moulded with the decorative material next the wall of the mould, the remainder of the article being formed by .injecting thermoplastic material round the decorative material spaced from the wall of the mould, in the process of injecting the subsequent layer or layers of plastic material, by the portion of the article first moulded. The transparent plastic article may be moulded with convex shapes which form lenses to magnify the photograph or other decoration.
