Class 87(ii) In the method of making hard-shell medicinal capsules which comprises dipping a mould pin in a solution of capsule-forming material and withdrawing the pin with an adherent coating of the material, the coated pin is subjected to cooling air directed through a hood in order to set the composition before the coated .pin is allowed to remain stationary for any substantial length of time. The invention is described as an addition to the capsule making machine described in Specification 360,427 in which mould pins P arranged in rows on strips G are assembled in groups of five strips and dipped in a tank of the heated capsule-forming composition (not shown). The set of strips is then raised on a rotating elevator E' and displaced laterally on to a table K, with the pins upward. When four groups of five strips each G<SP>1</SP>-G<SP>4</SP> are on the table they are moved to the right into the second position P<SP>2</SP> and a new set of four groups is assembled in the first position P' and so on, the groups being intermittently advanced to the right towards a drying stage (not shown). The rotation of the elevator E<SP>1</SP> prevents the coating on the mould pins from running until they are placed on the table K. The pins are then subjected to a stream of cool air (less than 65‹F.) from a hood H fed from a pipe M. Each pin receives a jet of air from a hole H<SP>2</SP> in a plate covered by a filter web H<SP>3</SP>. This sets the coating quickly and enables the machine to be used for materials which take longer to set than ordinary gelatin, such as for example the composition described in Specification 638,284, or cellulose acetate phthalate, polyvinyl alcohol, cellulose acetate, or ethyl cellulose.
