Abstract
672,601. Hand drills; chucks. JACOBS MANUFACTURING CO. Oct. 10, 1950 [Oct. 21, 1949], No. 24705/50. Class 83 (iii). A bit-brace to grip tools having circular shanks has a handle, and a chuck 12 (of which the collet may be of the type described in Specification 617,964) comprising co-operating threaded members 13, 14 of which the member 14 is connected to the handle and the member 13 is free to be turned by an actuating-member 20 to close the chuck, a radial-arm 22 on the member 20 being arranged to be brought close to a lower radial arm 11 of the handle to disengage interlocking means between the actuating-member 20 and so free member 13. The member 14 may be fixed to the arm 11 or, as shown, connected thereto through a ratchet 17, and has a conical-cap 16 against which jaws 15 are cammed into engagement with the tool upon relative rotation between the members 13, 14. This rotation is produced by the member 20 which has a keyed end to engage the member 13. In its inoperative position, depicted in broken lines, the actuating arm 22 of the member 20 is held against the arm 11 by a spring-clip 23.
