A fitting for controlling the flow in pipe lines comprises two axially movable body sections A with opposed faces 12, an elongated plate member C having two plate. parts 50, 51 spaced apart by webs 52, one of the plate parts 51 being an orifice plate and the other 50 a blind plate, and clamping means for securing the sections A in axial alignment with the plate member C clamped between them, the clamping means comprising screw threaded tie rods 17 mounted in spool-like blocks 16 which are slidable but non-rotatable in yokelike projections 15 projecting radially outward from each body section A. Flanges 21, 22 restrain the blocks 16 against axial movement and one or more flat sides 24 engaging corresponding shoulders 26 on the projections prevent rotation of the blocks. The mutually engaging threaded parts of the tie rods 17 and the blocks 16 corresponding to each body section have threads of different pitch so that the sections move relative to one another on rotation of the tie rods by an operating bar or the like in one of the openings 32. The blocks 16 are retained within . the yoke-like projections 15 by cotter pins 23. Both plate parts 50, 51 have circular ribs 60 adapted to engage grooves 60a in the faces 12 to ensure good sealing. In some instances, however, gaskets or sealing rings -may be used instead of the ribs 60. The screw-threaded parts are lubricated from a fitting 41 through passages 40, 42.
