671,392. Frequency measuring. BROWNE, B. C., and GILBERT, R. L. G. Aug. 16, 1950 [May 16, 1949; March 13, 1950], Nos. 12957/49 and 6272/50. Class 37. [Also in Group XXXVIII] Relates to a device for measuring gravity, weight or vertical acceleration comprising a weight 1 tensioning a filament 2 variations in the frequency of transverse vibrations being measured, and consists in means for compensating for variations due to temperature, creep, &c. The strip vibrates between the poles of a magnet 8 and is in the feed-back path of an oscillator whose frequency thus varies with the tension. To measure variation in frequency the output of the oscillator is beat with each of three phases from a crystal controlled oscillator to produce three phase beats which are applied to a synchronous motor which makes one rotation for each beat, the beats being counted by a gear train and dials. This arrangement differentiates between frequencies greater and frequencies less than the standard, and allows integration over a period of time.
