Abstract
671,218. Automatic exchange switches. AUTOMATIC ELECTRIC LABORATORIES, Inc. Feb. 1, 1949 [Feb. 19, 1948], No. 2768/49. Class 40 (iv). In a cross-bar switch, a control shaft is rotated to select the appropriate selecting bar and is then moved axially to cause the selecting bar to select one of two rows of contact sets. The control shaft 100 is ratchetdriven by an electromagnet 107 to engage one of a number of spirally-located arms 105 with a forked arm 124 on the appropriate selecting bar, e.g. 120. Subsequent energization of an electromagnet 109 or 110, axially moves the shaft 100 to cause fingers 121 connected by coiled springs to the selecting bar to select one of two adjacent rows of contacts, 144, 143, respectively. A second control shaft 150 is operated in a similar manner to select and lift an operating bar, e.g. 101, to operate the selected contact set.
