Abstract
670,704. Aerials. MOULTON, E. W., and SHARDLOW ELECTRIC WIRES, Ltd. Feb. 3, 1950 [Jan. 4, 1949], No. 167/49. Class .40 (vii). [Also in Group XXV] A mounting for a rod aerial A on the roof 11 of a vehicle, so that the aerial may be rotated at will from inside the vehicle and may be safely depressed should it encounter an obstruction, comprises a lower disc-like member 10 of insulating material, fixed to the forward curving part of the roof by means of bolts 13, plate 14 and rubber washers 12 and 15, and a rotatable dome-like member 17 which may also be insulating material. A diametric slot in the top of the dome member 17 carries a metal block 20 slidable therein and pivotally attached by a pin 24 to a spindle 23 which passes through holes in the roof and fixed members. The spindle 23 is pressed downwardly by a concentric coil spring 28 which thereby retains the block 20 and dome member 17 in position but able to rotate. The spring 28 acts between the fixed member 10, by means of the washer 23a retained therein, and the spindle sleeve 27 pinned to the spindle 23 and carrying a knob 26 located within the vehicle. The aerial rod A is secured in the metal block 20 at an angle of about 45 degrees to the spindle axis, thus being rotatable by means of the knob 26 to an approximately horizontal forward position. It may also be depressed on encountering an obstruction when in the raised position, the block 20 then pivoting within the dome member 17 and lifting spindle 23 against the action of spring 28. Two spring-loaded ball catches 31, 31 are provided between the disc 10 and dome 17 so that the aerial can be located in either of two positions 180 degrees apart. Connection to the aerial is made by means of a washer 34, pressed against the washer 23a by spring 28, having a tongue 35 parallel to the spindle axes and extending inside the roof 11 where the core 32 of coaxial cable 33 is attached. The hole within the disc member 10 is provided with a keyway to receive the tongue 35.
