Abstract
668,395. Welding by pressure. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. March 31, 1950 [April 21, 1949], No. 10591/49. Class 83 (iv). [Also in Group XXV] A steel stud for stud welding is provided with a separate aluminium ring adjacent its welding end. In an embodiment, a stud 1, Fig. 1, having a fusible projection 2 at its end has a split-ring 3 sprung into t groove 4. In a further embodiment, a stud 10, Fig. 2 with which the arc is started by withdrawing the stud or by employing granular material has a short length of tubing 11 pressed on to a reduced part 12 to fit against a shoulder 13. The ring which may be made by layers of aluminium foil may be fitted to a stud without groove or shoulder. Relative sizes of studs and rings are described.
