Abstract

668,123. Surgical injection apparatus. ROLLINSON, E. W. (Baxter Laboratories, Inc). Jan. 25, 1950, No. 1967/50. Class 81 (ii). [Also in Groups XVIII and XX] A partially filled container 10 for dispensing liquids such as intravenous solutions and blood plasma has an open neck 11 sealed by a closure 12 which has a drain passage 14 and an air inlet passage 15 extending therethrough. A tube 20 received within passage 15 has a constriction 22 which is normally sealed by a film of liquid. On allowing the liquid to drain from the container, the liquid seal successively explodes and reforms, the periodicity of which gives an indication of the rate of dispersing of the liquid. The liquid drains through a fitting 18 inserted in a constricted portion 16 of the passage 14, into a flexible tube 19 attached thereto. Ribs 13 in the form of threads may be formed on the neck of the container for securing a cover when not in use. In a modification, the air tube has no constriction, a second tube being inserted in the narrow portion 17 of passage 15 and being provided with a constriction in the parts of the tube outside the container.
