Abstract
667,935. Holding-tools for inserting circlips. MORRIS MOTORS, Ltd. June 8, 1950, No. 14291/50. Class 61 (ii). [Also in Group XXII] A circlip is inserted into a bore in a member 29 by forcing it along a tapering passage 31 by a fluid pressure ram 5 so that it becomes contracted sufficiently to enter the bore. The tapering passage is formed within a cylindrical head 6 which is also formed with a lateral slot through which the ring or circlip 27 is inserted into the larger end of the passage and an extension 32 adapted to fit within the bore. The ram is magnetised to facilitate the correct insertion of the ring in the head and a bevel 33 at the end of the portion 32 facilitates the ejection of the ring into the bore, after which it may be pushed along until it springs into the groove 30. Circlips in each of two grooves 30, 35 may be used to retain a bearing in position within the member 29. The head 6 is at one end of a cylinder 1 in which piston 2 may be moved by compressed air from an inlet 23 against a spring 9 in order to push the ram 5 down the passage 32. Control of the ram is effected by a hollow handle 13 which may be slid along a piston valve 18 against a spring 22 so as to move an inlet port 16 into communication with a duct 20, 21. On a rearward movement of the handle, the cylinder 1 is exhausted through a port 17.
