[Also in Group V] A vaporizing device for disseminating a sterilizing agent such as a glycol, e.g. triethylene glycol, in the atmosphere, comprises an electric bulb and an annular porous body surrounding said bulb and adapted to be impregnated with said agent, the porous body being provided with ribs or like projections on its inner surface which are in contact with the bulb and which form openended ducts or the like between the bulb and the porous body. The apparatus shown is made by placing an internal core 2 having a semi-spherical extension 2a corresponding to the external shape of an electric bulb 6 within a lamp shade 5, disposing a tubular member 3 on top of the extension 2a and co-axially with the shade 5 to form a mould into which a porous mass 1, e.g. diatomaceous earth and a binder such as plaster of Paris or Portland cement, in a liquid or pasty condition is introduced in such a manner as to form an annular recess 4 adapted to receive the liquid glycols. After setting the core 2 is removed and the porous mass constitutes an annuar lining within the upper part of the shade. The semispherical extension 2a of the core 2 is provided with ribs so as to form circular air ducts 7 within the concave surface of the lining porous body 1, thereby facilitating the passage of the vaporized glycols adjacent the surface of the bulb 6. In a modification (not shown), the shade is dispensed with and the porous mass is shaped as an annular body adapted to repose directly on the surface of the electric bulb 6.
