Abstract
Alkyl mononitrophenyl thionobenzenephosphonates possess the formula <FORM:0667591/IV (b)/1> where R is methyl or ethyl and R1 is o- or p-nitro-phenyl. They may be prepared by treating phosphenyl thiochloride (C6H5PSCl2) with the appropriate sodium alkoxide in an inert solvent (e.g. benzene or chlorbenzene) or with the alcohol in the presence of an acid-acceptor such as pyridine; the resulting monochloride (C6H5PSClOR) is then reacted with sodium o- or p-nitrophenate in an inert solvent boiling at 100-150 DEG C., e.g. chlorobenzene. Examples describe the preparation of all the four compounds covered by the above general formula.
