A high-pressure reaction vessel 1, or heat-exchanger tube, &c. is provided with a corrosion-resistant metal lining 3, or sheath, of, for example, tantalum of a thickness of 0.1 to 0.2 mms. which fits into or over the vessel with a clearance of about 1 mm., the said clearance being filled with a substance, such as paraffin, a metal halide, mercury or Wood's metal, which is liquid at the operating temperature of the vessel. The lining or sheath may be secured to the vessel and its cover 2 by slightly-conical clamping rings 4, 4<SP>1</SP> which are inserted into correspondingly-shaped grooves in the said two parts; at an opening, such as 5, the lining passes through the opening and is welded to a flangeshaped plate 3<SP>11</SP> clamped around the periphery thereof.
