667,126. Hydraulic brakes. BRIAND, C. June 21, 1949 [Dec. 10, 1948; April 12, 1949], Nos. 16479/49 and 16480/49. Class 103 (i). A device for sealing off the defective piping in a hydraulic braking system of the type described in Specifications 349,520 and 470,671 and U.S.A. Specifications 1,952,557 1,986,763, and 1,897,230 comprises two pistons 11, 12 in a casing 7, pressure being supplied to the space between them by a master cylinder, and the spaces on the other sides of the pistons being connected to the wheel cylinders. The device is characterized in that the diametral clearance between the pistons and the cylinder walls is sufficient to allow flow to make up for slight leakage of liquid without causing movement of the pistons, the face of each piston facing the brake connection end of the cylinder being adapted to co-operate with that end of the cylinder for sealing off the corresponding braking circuit when the piston is moved to this end. A three-piston device for sealing off any of three circuits is also described.
