Abstract

666,565. Lifter-rail motion for spinning or twisting machines. WADEMAN, W., and WADEMAN, J. May 6, 1949 [June 14, 1948), No. 15906/48. Class 120(ii) A mechanical system for moving the lifter rail of a spinning or twisting machine or the like includes a spring actuated member mechanically connected to said rail and adapted to move within another member against the action of a spring means in one direction and to be urged in the other direction by said spring means, the movement of the spring actuated member being controlled by two mutually threadedly engaged members, one of which is prevented from rotating, whereby rotation of the other causes a relative displacement of the two in the direction of the thread axis. As shown, a tube 11 is secured to the machine frame 12. Within the tube is a screwed shaft 14 which engages with an internally threaded bush, having projections which slide in longitudinal slots 11a in tube 11 when shaft 14 is rotated. Between the shaft 14 and tube 11 another tube 16 is inserted, said tube 16 having a bayonet slot 16a which engages projections 15a of bush 15. An end cap 14a, having a cover 17, is fixed to the end of shaft 14 and is slidable within tube 16 the other end of which is blind and provided with an adjustable screw 19 having a flat end piece 19a. Between the end piece 19a and cover 17 is a helical spring 20. On the protruding end of shaft 14 is a gear wheel 90 which may connect with a machine drive, and a handwheel 28. Cap rail 21 of the machine rests on castings 22 which slide on shafts 23 and are connected by chain 24 to lugs 25 on tube 16 which is loosely supported on carriers 26. In operation as the ring rail is lowered spring 20 is compressed and as it is raised the energy stored in the spring aids in the raising. A second embodiment shows a similar device fitted to a ring frame.
