Abstract

666,260. Gas turbine plant. LUCAS, Ltd., J. Feb. 8, 1950. [Feb. 15, 1949; March 3, 1949] Nos. 4103/49 and 5811/49. Class 110(iii). [Also in Groups XXVII and XXIX] Fuel regulating apparatus for a jet propulsion engine, gas turbine, &c. in which means dependent in part upon blower air pressure regulates the quantity of fuel supplied to the prime mover, has a spring- loaded valve for limiting the blower air pressure which can be exerted on the said means. As shown in Fig. 1, a chamber q subjected to blower air pressure contains an evacuated bellows r which actuates a leak-off valve p controlling the position of a spring-loaded piston h subjected on one side, through a passage k, to the delivery pressure of a swashplate fuel pump 11. The piston h, which has a restricted aperture m, actuates a movable throttle f in the fuel supply line b, c to the engine, and the pressure drop across the throttle is applied to a diaphragm 6 which actuates a leak-off valve 9, controlling a servo-piston 22 for adjusting the swashplate of the pump 11. The blower air pressure which can be exerted on the bellows r, is limited by a ball relief valve v loaded by an adjustable spring x. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 2, the servo-piston for actuating the swashplate of the fuel pump 11<SP>1</SP> is controlled by a leak-off valve 9<SP>1</SP> mounted on an arm 27 secured to a diaphragm 28 which constitutes a fulcrum for the arm. The arm is acted upon by a spring 34, a plunger 35 subjected to the discharge pressure of the pump, and a diaphragm 38 exposed to blower air pressure communicated through a passage t<SP>1</SP>. A bellows 31, exposed to atmospheric pressure, counteracts the effect of atmospheric pressure on the diaphragm 38. The blower air pressure which can be exerted on the diaphragm 38 is limited by an adjustably spring-loaded ball relief valve v<SP>1</SP>. The application of an adjustably spring-loaded ball relief valve to the fuel regulating means according to Specifications 579,747, 588,432, [both in Group XXIX], and 630,454 to limit the blower air pressure which can be applied thereto, is also described. Specification 577,016, [Group XXIX], also is referred to.
