Abstract

665,984. Photographic processes. GEVAERT PHOTO-PRODUCTEN N.V. Oct. 2, 1947 [Oct. 7, 1946], No. 26570/47. Addition to 654,631. Class 98 (ii). In the process according to the parent Specification, the diffusion of the silver halide and removal of the emulsion layer is performed in a bath containing a gelation-inhibiting agent, e.g. a thiocyanate, an organic sulphonic acid, or ammonium carbonate and a silver halide solvent. Substances restraining diffusion as described in Specification 427,518, chemical toning substances (e.g. selenium compounds), and crystallization-preventing substances containing an ionizable OH-group may also be added to the bath. In example 1, exposed material consisting of a support carrying a hardened receiving layer and an unhardened emulsion layer is developed and then treated in a diffusion bath containing hypo and sodium α-naphthalenesulphonate. The image may be toned in a gold-thiocyanate bath. In example 2, exposed material consisting of a waterproof paper support coated with a hardened receiving layer and an unhardened contrasty emulsion layer is developed in a hydroquinone-KOH developer and is then treated in a diffusion and toning bath containing potassium thiocyanate, hypo, sodium sulphite, and selenium. In example 3, exposed material, according to Specification 654,931, consisting of a support carrying a hardened light-sensitive emulsion containing development nuclei and an unhardened light-sensitive emulsion layer is developed and treated in a bath containing potassium thiocyanate and hypo, The remaining hardened emulsion layer contains a deep-brown positive image separated from the first-formed negative image therein by a small transparent contour line. Specifications 319,077, [Class 98 (ii)], 614,155 and 654,630 also are referred to.
