665,855. Moulding reinforced concrete. SOC. TECHNIQUE POUR L'UTILISATION DE I A PRECONTRAINTE (S.T.U.P.) (PROCEDES FREYSSINET). Nov. 16, 1948 [April 6, 1948], No. 29826/48. Class 87(ii) [Also in Group X] Concrete members prestressed by means of elongated ring-shaped reinfcrcements 2 are manufactured by stretching the reinforcements by means of tension gear engaged in their looped ends 2a. 2b, casting the concrete around the rectilinear part of the reinforcements, removing the tension gear when this concrete has set and then casting the concrete forming the ends 23a, 23b of the member and embedding therein the looped ends 2a, 2b. The looped ends may be coated to avoid adhesion to the concrete and additional reinforcements 24 or 25 may be provided. The concrete forming the ends of the member may be made from expansive cement. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 also describes the use of rigid blocks in conjunction with elongated ring-shaped reinforcements in the manufacture of pre-stressed concrete members, the blocks being placed within the looped ends of the reinforcements which are then tensioned by gear acting on wire ropes engaging in the rigid blocks or with members projecting therefrom. A series of moulds may be arranged in end to end relationship so that a number of members may be manufactured simultaneously using only one tensioning apparatus. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
