Abstract
665,720. Oil gas generation. GAS MACHINERY CO. Sept. 30, 1949 [Oct. 1, 1948], No. 26127/49. Class 55 (ii). Oil gas is generated alternately, after intervening blow periods, in each of a pair of units 10, 11, comprising fixing and combustion-vaporizing zones 12, 13 and 14, 15. Zones 14, 15 are connected, or may be developed into a single chamber, and an air inlet is provided at the gas exit end of each unit. After each unit has been heated the cycle is started by passing air down unit 10 and into zone 15 to which a fluid fuel such as petroleum oil, tar, or gas is also admitted. The heat generated by burning off carbon previously deposited in zones 12, 14 reduces the amount of fuel required; supplementary air may be supplied. Combustion products pass through zone 13 to the stack. In the make stage gas-making oil and desirably a diluent, e.g. steam are admitted to zone 15 and gases generated are fixed in zone 13 at about 1000- 1400‹ F. and discharged to a wash box. The next two stages consist of a blow and a make period with unit 10 replacing unit 11. Purges may be effected between stages; thus, blasts of air and steam may be swept through the units between the blow and make and the make and blow stages respectively. High residual carbon oils may be utilized; the temperature at the exit of the fixing zone is e.g. 100-500‹ F. lower than in normal processes. Specifications 515,996 and 665,721 are referred to.
