Abstract

665,604. Train control and cab signalling system. THOMPSON, H. A. July 19, 1948. [Aug. 26, 1947] No. 23493/47. Class 105. A train control and cab signalling system comprises a telegraph-type relay actuated from a trackside line wire through an inductive collector A and amplifier B and serving to energize one or other of a set of tuned reed relays R1, R2, R3, the line wire being normally supplied with current of frequency f<SP>1</SP> to energize a silent-type tuned-reed relay R1 but at a distant signal at clear the line-wire current is of a frequency f<SP>2</SP> and actuates a gong-sounding tuned-reed relay R2 provided that a relay D normally held energized over contacts 12/13 of the silent-type tuned-reed relay has dropped, the circuit to the gong-sounding tuned-reed relay R2 including back contacts 21/20 of the relay D. A brake magnet P is in series with the relay D but is slow acting. The driver must therefore manually reset the relay D as soon as the distant signal has been passed so as to re-close front contacts 2/4 of the relay D which are in the circuit to the silent-type tunedreed relay R1. During passage of the distant signal at clear the relays D and P received current over contact 24/25 of the tuned-reed relay R2. but the armature of relay D was dropped beyond the magnetic range. A further gong-sounding tuned-reed relay R3 responsive to line wire current of frequencyÀ#<SP>3</SP> permits the signalman to give coded bell signals to the driver as for instance when stopped at a home signal at danger, it being noted that with line-wire current of frequency f<SP>3</SP> the magnet D and brake magnet P will be de-energized since the tuned-reed relays R1, R2 will not then be closing the contacts 12/13 or 24/25. Specifications 18443/14 and 12228/15, [both in Class 105], are referred to and in the Provisional Specification, Specification 165,493, [Class 105], also is referred to.
