664,628. Cooling gas turbine rotors.. AKTIESELSKABET BURMEISTER & WAIN'S MASKIN-OG SKIBSBYGGERI. May 10, 1949 [March 8, 1949], No. 12486/49. Class 110(iii) In a turbine rotor which deals with a working-fluid at a temperature above 550‹C, and comprises solid discs 1-4 confining peripherally enclosed intermediate cavities through which cooling air is circulated, the discs are provided with a large number of evenly spaced narrow bores 19 for passage of the cooling air. Data involving the size, number and location of the bores is given. The cooling air enters at 7, traverses a path indicated by arrows and leaves at 24. Bores 26 in the discs lead into hollow rotor blades 25. The gland 29 allows leakage between the outlet 24 and the turbine inlet 30 to cool the rotor surface. The exhausted cooling air may be mixed with the working medium before the combustion chamber.
