664,239. Sizing paper. FROEHLICH, E. G. J. Dec. 6, 1949, No. 31265/49. Drawings to Specification. Class 96. Natural or artificial resins, vegetable, animal, or mineral waxes, e.g. carnauba, bees', montan, or paraffin wax, or bitumens, distillation residues, such as petroleum, asphalt, or stearic acid, or artificial waxes or fats &c., dissolved in mineral oil fractions of specific gravity 0.70 to 0.90 are introduced into a moist paper web subsequently to the last wet press, e.g. just before or after the commencement of drying. The sizing solution may be applied by coating rolls, by spraying, or by a wick extending across the paper, and may be applied locally to produce watermark effects. The invention is applicable to hand-made paper.
