664,053. Cycle pedals. MATTHIAS, E. March 9, 1949 [Jan. 21, 1949], No. 6466/49. Class 136(ii) A cycle pedal is constructed as a double foot support with bearing surfaces 3, 4 for the front and rear portions of the foot and is rigidly connected with a link 5 which is freely rotatable at the end of a crank arm in such a manner that the plane of the pedal is at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the link which intersects the axis of the support of the link in the crank arm. The link has a projecting arm 6 to which side parts 7, 8 of the pedal are fixed by screws. A bush 11 is inserted in a bore at the end of the crank arm 1 and has at each end annular grooves 11a containing balls 12 which take up both axial and radial pressures and on which rest channel-like shoulders of a pivot pin 2 of the link 5. One of the shoulders is on a ring nut 14 screwed on to the pivot pin 2 and secured by a counter nut 15. A washer 16 is placed between the nuts 14, 15 and is held against turning by a nose engaging in a longitudinal groove in the pivot pin. The bore of the crank arm is closed by a detachably pressed-in dust cover 17.
