Abstract

663,178. Electric welding. FORD MOTOR CO., Ltd. Sept. 13, 1948 [Sept. 11, 1947], No. 23974/48. Class 83 (iv). [Also in Group XXV] In fastening a strip of non-conductive material to a metallic member by forcing a metal tack through the material and resistance welding it to the member, the tack comprises a head, a short truncated conical body and a conical pointed or wedge-shaped end (see Group XXV). In an embodiment a sealing strip 10 is fastened to a body 11 by a tack 12 welded to the body 11 by a gun 13 fed from a transformer 14. The tack may be rotated and struck a light blow after pressure has been applied when the body 11 is painted. A C-clamp gun may be employed.
