Abstract

An anticorrosion composition comprises a light hydrocarbon oil, i.e., an oil having a boiling range between 120 DEG F. and 700 DEG F. and/or a halogenated hydrocarbon solvent, and minor proportions of one or more melting agents, oily or fatty matter such as heavy hydrocarbon oils or animal fats or greases, and isopropyl alcohol and/or the monobutyl ether of ethylene glycol (butyl Cellosolve, the word "Cellosolve" being a Registered Trade Mark). Halogenated hydrocarbon solvents mentioned are chlorinated kerosene and carbon tetrachloride. Aliphatic amines such as triethanolamine, cyclohexylamine and dicyclohexylamine may also be added to the composition. A typical composition comprises 5 per cent mineral lubricating oil, 75 per cent white spirit, 10 per cent lanolin, 5 per cent sodium petroleum sulphonates and 5 per cent butyl Cellosolve.
