Abstract

662,524. Crucibles; tinning. BIRLEC, Ltd. Oct. 15, 1949. [Dec. 27, 1948] No. 26507/49. Classes 82(i) and 82(ii). [Also in Group XI] A metal coating pot 1 having a refractory lining 3 has at least one passage, such as 5, provided in the side wall 7 above the centre of the pot, and an inclined inductor unit assembled to the outside of each passaged wall with its secondary loop 8, 9, 10, 21 opening into the corresponding passage 5 so that the heated metal discharged from the loop passes into the upper zone of the pot without disturbing the contents of the bottom of the pot. The primary of the inductor comprises copper coils 15 and an iron core 16. The pot is charged by preheating the lining 3, pouring molten metal into the pot until it overflows into the loop of the inductor unit, switching on the current until full power is reached, and filling the pot to the level 18. The centre axis 20 of the heating channels intersect the open top of the pot. Specifications 642,199 and 642,200, [both in Group XI], are referred to.
