Abstract
661,911. Variable-speed gearing. NAYLOR, J. T., and ATKINSON LORRIES (1933), Ltd., March 13,1950 [March 11, 1949], No. 6697/49. Class 80 (ii). A gear control mechanism for adapting right hand drive vehicles to left hand drive comprises a transversely arranged coupling shaft 7 connected at one end to the gearbox selector member 1 and at the other end to the hand operating lever 18. Rotary and axial movements are imparted to this coupling shaft to produce axial and rotary movements respectively of the selector member 1 through a depending lever 5 engaging in a socket member 3 secured to the member 1. The movements of the shaft 7 are effected from the gear lever 18 through a lever 13 coupled to an upstanding lever 10 and the ball-end 20 of the lever 18, both pivotal and longitudinal movement of the lever being allowed by a ball-shaped enlargement 16 housed within a tube member 17. Alternatively the pivotal movement of lever 13 may be confined to a single plane by means of a simple pivot pin arrangement which may also slide in the direction of the length of the lever. In a gate control system the lever 18 may work in the gate or an extension of the lever 10 may work in a gate adjacent the gearbox.
