660,934. Percussive drills. TEMPLE VELOCITY EQUIPMENT, Inc. May 6, 1949 [June 22, 1948], No. 12152/49. Class 124 An explosively actuated tool comprises a breech-block 6 slidably urged forward by a spring 8 in a sleeve 3 projecting from a stock 1 and a barrel 13 detachably connected to the breech-block and projecting from the sleeve. A firing pin is threaded in a projecting portion 2 of the stock, normally in a retracted position, and it has a turning member manually operated to advance the pin into such a position that on sliding the barrel and breech-block towards the stock the pin detonates a cartridge 16 held between the barrel and the breech-block. A spring 31 automatically returns the pin to its retracted position. A piston 17 crimped to the cartridge drives a stud 18 through a bore in a cap 19, which bore is of less diameter than the piston, and into the work. The sliding movement of the breech-block is limited by a stud 9 moving in a slot 10 and the barrel 13 projects from the sleeve 3 by an amount substantially equal to the distance between the forward and rearward positions of the breech-block.
