Abstract

660,360. Fuel-injection pumps. SILBERSTEIN, V. Oct. 20, 1949. No. 13928/48. Class 102 (i). In a fuel-injection pump the cylinder 3 is axially slidable on a fixed plunger 4 and a reciprocatory plunger 5 and has an inlet port 12 that is closed by the plunger 5 to determine the beginning of injection. The plunger 5 has an axial bore 18 communicating with radial bores 19 and an axially adjustable sleeve 20 surrounds the plunger so that during the delivery stroke, the bores 19 are uncovered by projecting beyond the sleeve to determine the end of injection. The cylinder 3 and sleeve 20 are adjustable by the cams 9, 21 respectively. A small bore 22 may be provided in the plunger so that at the commencement of delivery a reduced amount of fuel is delivered until the bore is covered by the sleeve 20. Alternatively, the cylinder may be extended to cover the bores 19 and have an axially spaced sets of ports communicating with grooves in its internal face and the sleeve 20 arranged on the exterior of the cylinder to determine which groove is operative.
