[Class 40 (ii)] A record-changing device comprises a fixed centering pin 2 about which the turntable 3 rotates. The pin has a longitudinal slot 7 which, towards the upper end, is cut right through the pin opposite to a recess 4 forming a supporting shoulder 5. Inside the pin 2 and movable in the slot 7 is a record-changing rod 8 formed at its upper end with a supporting shoulder 19, recess 9, and finger 10. A stop member 12 is tiltably mounted in the upper end of the pin 2 and can move longitudinally under the control of a spring 11. Stop 12 has an arm 15 and an arm 16 that rests in recess 9 of rod 8. A stack of records 6 is threaded on pin 2 and rests on the shoulder 19 of rod 8 which is moved to this position (Fig. 1) by the record-changing mechanism (not shown). To change a .record the rod 8 is turned clockwise to remove the shoulder 19 and allow the lowest record to fall (Fig. 2). The stop member 12 rotates and arm 15 displaces the remaining records to the right so as to be supported on shoulder 5 on pin 2. The rod 8 is then moved upwards to lift the records off the shoulder 5, and then rotates anticlockwise to move shoulder 19 outside the pin 2 and lower the remaining records into the original position shown in Fig. 1. When the last record has fallen, rod 8 moves up under the action of a weak spring (not shown) to stop the gramophone at the end of the record. Alternatively, the normal static position may be that of Fig. 2, the records resting on the shelf 5. After playing, when records are removed from the pin 2 they force rod 8 inwards so as to lie within the pin. The uppermost record then engages the end of arm 15 to move stop 12 upwards against the action of spring 11 until the edge of the recess in the pin turns member 12 clockwise so as to lie within the pin, thus allowing the records to be removed.
