Abstract

659,930. Band saws. ROBINSON & SON, Ltd., T., and WESTWOOD, A. April 5, 1949, No. 9189. [Class 145(ii)] A band saw machine has the saw tensioned by being passed over the top pulley which is under the influence of both a weight 14 and a resilient member 13, the latter taking up the sudden movements of the pulley and the weight providing a steady tension. The pulley (not shown) is fixed to a shaft 4 on an arm 5 pivoted at one end 6. The other end of arm 5 has an abutment member 8 which engages a movable contact member 9 and so transmits the downward force on the pulley to a bell crank having arms 7, 12. By varying the position of member 9 the leverage of the system can be adjusted. The long arm 12 of the bell crank carries a spring 13 turning on the weight 14 carried on a freely pivoted lever 15. Arm 12 may act as the spring member and be in the form of a leaf spring, spring 13 being dispensed with.
