Abstract
659.327. Drying ceramic ware. COPELAND & SONS, Ltd., W. T., and COPELAND, R. S. March 4, 1949. No. 5917. [Class 34(ii)] [Also in Group XI] Ceramic ware is dried by subjecting it to the field of a radio frequency wave generator, the neutral or earthed electrodes of the system being formed by the moulds on or in which the articles are shaped and supported. As shown, a frame 10 carries an electric motor 9 of half-revolution type. The output spindle 11 drives by a V-rope 13, a shaft 15 which carries cams 17 which bear on the heads of a plunger 21 having a loading spring 22 bearing against the head 20 and a cup 19. The plunger is insulated but carries the live electrode 23 which is coupled to a radio frequency electric wave generator. This electrode may be a strip or system of strips carried by a central bracket or support 24 or it may be of truncated conical form. For each such electrode 23 and cam 17 the frame 10 carries spindles 25, 26 driven by suitable gears from a motor (not shown), and on the spindle 26 a head 30 carries a seating 31 in which a mould 32 can be placed which mould is made of a sintered or powdered metallic material of. a porous nature and forms the earthed or neutral electrode of the system. Alternatively, the part 32 may be a support containing the mould instead of the mould itself. As the motor turns the live electrode is lowered into the hollow article or removed therefrom. A modification comprises a potter's mangle in which the moulds are carried on swing conveyers and the plungers operate as the moulds reach top dead-centre position.
