659,285. Making girders. KELLER, J. S. March 31, 1949, No. 8813. Convention date, April 2, 1948. [Class 83 (ii)] [Also in Group X] A girder comprises upper and lower T-section chord members 1, Fig. 1 (this Figure shows only part of the upper part), joined by a web of metal members 2 arranged in zig-zag pattern and having divided ends 3 attached to both sides of the chords by a single resistance welding operation. The web members may be of V- or H-section or tubular, with the ends of the web cut away, or of two separate strips having central beads. A number of parallel girders may be connected by further girders 5 welded at right angles which are made less deep so as to fit between the chords of the first girders when they are welded in position. The members 2 are arranged so as to locate the chords 5 of these girders. Some of the joints may be riveted and the girders may be rust-proofed with synthetic resin lacquer by dipping after welding.
