[Class 97 (iii)] [Also in Group XV] A machine for reproducing lettering and designs (see Group XV) from plates having channelled designs therein comprises a writing arm which when moved over selected portions of the designs in one of the plates reproduces through a pantograph arrangement a corresponding movement imparted to a holder for a brush or other marking element. As shown in Fig. 2, a stand unit supports a carriage 112 by means of a plain cylindrical runner 32 and a parallel locking runner 33 provided with transverse indentations along its length. The carriage 112 has a pair of parallel guides 22 along which parallel supporting guides 29 and 30 may run. A brushoperating plate 6 slides in the guides 29 and 30. A column 7 passing through a collar 8 may adjustably clamped to the carriage. The be column 7 supports a fixed writing plate 1 and a plate 2 which may be superimposed on the plate 1 for guiding the point 113 of a hand operated writing arm 28 supported on a rod 3 which is carried in a universal joint 17 attached to the base of the column 7. By lowering the column 7 relatively to the plate 6, the plate 6 will move a proportionate greater distance when the arm 28 is moved a fixed distance, and a proportionate lesser distance when the column is raised, thus the machine prints lettering of a maximum size when the column is at its lowest position and a minimum size when at its highest position.
